The game of Carrom has been said to have started by the Indian Kings. It is more likely that it was modified by the royals from the street-style version of Carrom played by the people of India. An antique carrom board made with a glass surface is placed in a royal Patiala Palace in north India.

Carrom was likely invented from Timor in Asia and travelled with the Portuguese to the Indian subcontinent at the time. It is the name of succulent star fruit.

Rules to Play Carrom Online on Mela App

We have tried our best to simplify the Carrom rules to help you get started with the game. Don’t fret, even if you are playing a carrom game online on the Mela app for the first time, these rules are quite easy to follow.

  • Online Carrom game is often played between two or four players, the queen coin is placed at the centre of the board and is enclosed by six pieces in a circle.
  • All the pieces touch the Queen and the pieces adjacent to them so that every outer piece is brushing the inner circle. The coloured pieces in both the circles must be placed in an alternative manner. Both these circles are made in a way that both the white pieces from the outer and inner ring make a straight line that targets the side of the board where the player who breaks is positioned. With an online carrom app like Mela, there is no need to worry about perfecting this ring formation as it is automatically done when you begin the game online.
  • Scoring - The player has to pocket all the designated pieces and the queen followed by coin cover in all the professional games. If you are playing a freestyle match, you should just focus on scoring higher than the opposition players.
  • Striking - The striker needs to be struck and not pushed. But, as you are playing online then the striker can be dragged on the line from left to right and then simply aim and release the striker. It is important that the striker touches both the front line and the rear line.
  • Fouls - If a player commits a foul, a penalty is indicted by reducing the coins and placing it in the centre and their turn ends. It is foul when the player pockets the striker, or strikes under the striking line. Other examples of foul include pocketing the final cover piece before the queen.
Tips & Tricks

Here are some tricks that will help you play Carrom like an Indian Maharaja.

Side Shot - Side shot is a trick shot mostly used to pocket your pieces. It enables you to move away from the rival’s game pieces. A side shot includes hitting a striker in a way that pushes the game pieces in the opposite direction. This makes it significantly difficult for the other players to pocket their game piece.

Middle Shot - This particular shot is played only when the game pieces are in the centre at the start. You get a chance to hit two game pieces by hitting the striker where you want between two game pieces. At the start of the game, it is the best chance to pocket two game pieces.
