Kachuful is a trick-taking card game originated in India. It is similar to the games “Oh Hell” and is also known as “Judgment” and “Forecasting” in native English countries. There are many versions of this beautiful card game and Spades is also one of them. If you are like one of us, there is a high probability that you must have played this game with your family and friends during school holidays and summer vacations.

In Kachuful, it is not how good your cards are, but how good your luck and judgment are. There are momentary ups and downs in the game. It is usually played in rounds and each round consists of a different number of cards per hand and a different trump suit, which starts with Spades, Diamonds, Clubs and Hearts in that particular order. The name of the game in English means “raw flower” which is a mnemonic for the card sequence in Gujarati language.

Kachuful is played like any other trick taking card game as the game starts with the player to the left of the dealer. The tricks for all the players are calculated at the end and each player that manages to score an exact number of hands/tricks receives 10 points plus the number of tricks/hands estimated at the beginning of the round. Each player that fails to score the exact number of tricks does not score any points or that round.

The game continues for as many rounds as possible depending on the total number of players playing the game. In some instances when there are more players, teams play with two 52 card decks so they can play more rounds.

It is great that this nostalgic card game is available online as it allows players to join from anywhere by creating a virtual room. You can play Kachuful on the Mela app today. So, play the game online and share your feedback with Team Mela.

Tips & Tricks

Kachuful looks like an easy game in the beginning, but it is also a game of strategy and judgment as you need to score an accurate number of hands as you predict when the round begins. You can use some of the below tips and tricks to be a better judge of cards and be a champion at Kachuful.

  • It is important to remember that Kachuful is not won just by high value cards. The game is won by strategy and how you choose to use your cards. Cards as low as fours and sixes can win hands, especially if the group has predicted a low hand at the beginning of the game. At the same time, cards two and three would lose more often than not. It is best to check the trump and predict a number which is manageable.
  • It can be overwhelming to predict the right number of hands in the first few rounds as only a few cards are being used and some bids are forced. In the initial rounds, you will be amazed to see that your low value cards can win hands, while your high value cards get trumped. More often than not, you can think that low value cards will not help you score more than just counting on high cards to be absolute winners.
  • When the bid total is more than the total number of hands in the round, some players would want to capture your middle-range cards or trump a trick in which you played a high value card. When the bid total is less than the total hands, other players will let you win an extra hand as and when possible.
